Hello my fellow homeboys/bloggers lol. My name is Raul Fernandez and this is my blog, which will mostly consist of information on anything science related. Be it Physics (My favorite subject), Chemistry, Psychology, or any other science, I will always have something interesting to show you. If you are interested on where I get my information, here are some sites I use: Bigthink.com, Yahoo.com, and Sciencedaily.com.
Enough with this intro. Today on yahoo I found a pretty crazy story. Astronomers may have found a planet which they believe is largely made of Diamonds!!!!!! It's around four times larger than the earth and orbits a Pulsar every two hours and 10 minutes. A Pulsar is essentially a dead neutron star that rotates hundreds of times per second.
If you want to learn more about pulsars/quasars in terms that anybody can understand, see the video in this link. Its a very cool documentary part of a series called "The Universe".

Interesting post Raul. Do you know how the scientists guessed that it was made of diamonds?
ReplyDeleteAs a matter of fact I do. Based on the article, this planet mostly consists of carbon. Since it's a very dense planet, scientist made the logical statement that the carbon is crystallized, aka diamond. Thank You for your interest Sky.
ReplyDeleteIntriguing. Do you know more detail about this planet? For example its relative location?
ReplyDeleteIm glad you asked Shiaki. It is estimated to be around 4,000 light years away from the earth. In other words, its in our own galactic backyard!!!
